Self-reform

October 4, 2010

Soul searching is an inevitable exercise to find where to go when you are comfortable – not when life is too difficult. In situations where everything seems to be going too fine – health, wealth, family, friends, job, rewards, recognition…. some of us get into this mood of being at cross-roads!

Many successful business people start thinking about how they should help others, work for a great social cause, start a social service/NGO, a free school, hospital, etc…. Many of them will dedicate themselves to this as well. But these good intentions mostly last only their own life times while businesses they built might last beyond them!

Wise men seem to have found a good means to balance this with continuous quest triggered by self drive to reform themselves than when they are at cross-roads! Easier said than done for the rest of us!

At work, we call this quest – continuous improvement, business sustainability, transformation! Drivers might be different – competition, customers, changing environment… etc.! – mostly external, reactive – unless bound by a strong & large enough vision!

For the rest of us, simple mantras like these might be of help:

“Self-reform automatically brings about social reformation! Confine yourself to self-reformation. Social reform will take care of itself!” ~ Swami Vivekananda

“Why don’t you help your own lotus flower to boom? The bees will come of themselves!” ~ Sri Ramakrishna

What are we waiting for…..?
