Every leader, author or coach advocates how important it is for you to be a person who adds lot of value to any situation.
There are many folks in cubicle empires who take this very seriously. Yes, very very seriously. They have been bitten by the value add bug so much – that it is impossible for them to keep away from adding value, at any cost.
Some take the bold route –
“I’m not an expert here. But let me share my views so that you get the picture of a layman’s opinion on the subject matter!…..” They don’t stop at this. Follow-up diligently to see why their opinion was not considered in the final output.
Some take advantage of their “position” to add value –
“Let me tell you as your boss – this is a lousy design the customer has approved. Please make modifications I am suggesting and ensure customer pays for the same.” “We should not just listen to them for the simple fact that they pay for our services!”
Some feel asking a question is the best way of adding value – irrespective of the context, they will ask at least one question! Neither do they care about the answer nor implication of their question at least on the time of everyone involved!
Senior managers from yesteryears have a ‘time tested way’ – modify and ship!
This bug bites many, routinely! Creating a lot of jobs – including those of improving efficiency!
What is your way of job creation?
